Patient Resources
Everything you need to know about medical marijuana in Alabama — from qualifying to your first dispensary visit.
The Endocannabinoid System
Your body has a built-in regulatory system that uses molecules similar to cannabis compounds. It regulates pain, inflammation, mood, sleep, and appetite. Medical marijuana supplements this natural system.
THC, CBD, and Cannabinoids
THC is the primary therapeutic compound (regulated at 50mg/day initially). CBD provides anti-inflammatory and anti-anxiety effects. Your physician recommends the right balance for your condition.
Terpenes
Aromatic compounds that shape each product’s effects. Myrcene enhances relaxation. Limonene elevates mood. Beta-caryophyllene reduces inflammation. Your dispensary can guide you based on your needs.
Delivery Methods
Alabama allows: tablets, capsules, tinctures, gel cubes, topicals, transdermal patches, nebulizers, and inhalers. Smoking, vaping, and edibles are prohibited.
Dosing & THC Limits
50mg/day for the first 90 days. Your physician can increase to 75mg after a follow-up visit. Terminal illness patients have no cap. Start low, increase gradually.
Drug Interactions
Cannabis can interact with opioids, benzodiazepines, blood thinners, and certain antidepressants. Our physicians review all your medications before certifying you.
What to Expect at the Dispensary
Bring your AMCC card and Alabama ID. Staff will help you select products based on your physician’s recommendation. Products are not covered by insurance.
Storage & Legal Requirements
Must be stored securely to prevent unauthorized access. Sharing cannabis with anyone is a criminal offense and grounds for card revocation. Keep your card current — possession without a valid card is illegal.
